An interesting conversation came to pass this evening. I spoke with LeRoy Maughan, a consultnt with the FranklinCovey group about my aspirations. Before we move much farther, my name is Jake. All my life I have dreamed big. In fact I remember once dreaming of all the great things the world had to offer while riding with my Grandma in her car to church in McCall Idaho. I told her of things I wanted to buy and of the adventures I planned on experiencing. She replied saying, "Jake, you have a champaigne taste on a beer budget." I at the time didnt know what champaigne was however I believed that no matter my circumstances in life, I would move from being simply ordinary to extraordinary. Now I am 23 years old, married and have a child on the way. I have experienced many things including running 2 franchises in Mexico to serving as the directors asistant on the motion picture, "Take." These experiences have led me to the point at which I address you now.
LeRoy Maughan posed a simple but powerful question to me during our coversation. He said, "what are your aspirations?" I replied with a long a rather boring response feeling as if I had talked myself in circles. He replied saying, "Jake, be more specific. The more specific you are the more effective you become." Narrowing my mind is a difficult task. For those who know me, I am a person with incredible passion for EVERYTHING. This is tough when trying to narrow your passion down. This led to other advice in our conversation. Find your passion...what (thing, desire) you are the most passionate about. Once that is defined write it down. Let it savor in your mind for a day or two. Set it in motion. Clarity is important...the more clarity you define, your ability to direct your efforts and energy becomes more effective. Once your idea is defined, write down what it would allow you to do (3 times). This will set in motion smaller goals. Small goals win monumentous victories. As you then formulate a "goals sequence," you will then begin to climb the ladder to achievement. Build your circle of influences...
This week I am looking forward to trying this method. I am interested to see where it leads me. I graduate in a year with a degree in Communications (Advertising) and a business related minor. This is the time to 'figure it out.' I have some many options and I plan on ZONING IN on what best fits my aspirations. I need to get ' In the Zone.'
